Alternative

Alfred Alternatives for Mac

Alfred covers search, web search, snippets, clipboard, and workflows. Decide which jobs a replacement must preserve.

Before choosing an Alfred alternative, decide what you want to replace. Alfred is more than an app launcher: it searches files and contacts, runs default or custom web searches, manages snippets, and automates tasks through Powerpack workflows. Comparing only clipboard history—or only the free launcher—misses important parts of the product.

If your workflows already work well, you can keep Alfred and replace only its clipboard or screenshot role. Before a full migration, list the keywords, web searches, snippets, workflows, and shortcuts you use every day.

Choose by the job you want to replace

Main need Consider Scope and limits
Mac launcher, commands, and integrations Raycast Root Search, built-in commands, public extensions, and Quicklinks; Alfred workflows need to be rebuilt, and some Raycast Pro features require a subscription
Open-source launcher and selected Raycast migration Tinycast Free native launcher with snippets, custom commands, and Raycast extension support; imports selected Raycast settings, not Alfred workflows. Requires macOS 26+
Clipboard, screenshots, and content tools Frset Organize copied content, capture and process screenshots, use text tools, and search the web from the menu bar; not a local-file launcher or full automation system
Keep custom workflows and web search Keep Alfred and replace one tool If your workflows are reliable, a partial switch can reduce setup
Lightweight clipboard history Maccy Focused on clipboard retrieval; no Alfred launcher or workflow system
Clipboard collections across devices Paste Pinboard-style organization and Apple-device use; not a launcher or web-search replacement
Screenshot capture and annotation Shottr Focused on screenshots, OCR, and annotation; not an Alfred launcher or workflow replacement

What Alfred does and what requires Powerpack

Alfred's feature overview covers app launching, file search, system actions, and default web searches. You can search common sites by keyword or create a custom search. Calculator, Dictionary, Contacts, and other tools are also part of Alfred's feature set.

Clipboard History and Workflows require Powerpack. Clipboard History searches text, images, and file links; it can save clips as snippets and merge items. Snippets can expand when you type a keyword. Workflows connect keywords, hotkeys, scripts, file actions, and outputs. Alfred also supports web search and custom searches; web search is not limited to paid workflows.

Alfred's public materials show how to use a workflow for image OCR, but do not document the same integrated capture, annotation, and screenshot indexing flow as Frset. If screenshots are part of your routine, keep or choose a screenshot app and test the specific workflow you need. Shottr is one dedicated option.

Alternatives for different roles

Raycast for launching and extensions

Raycast is a close launcher alternative to Alfred. Root Search can reach apps, files, commands, extensions, and Quicklinks, including web searches. The free plan includes clipboard history and public extensions; clipboard retention is three months on Free and can be unlimited on paid plans. Raycast and Alfred use different automation models, so do not assume an Alfred workflow will transfer directly.

Tinycast for an open-source launcher, not an Alfred workflow import

Tinycast is a free, open-source native launcher for macOS 26 or later. It supports snippets, custom commands, Quicklinks, and Raycast extensions. Its import guide covers selected Raycast settings; it does not describe importing Alfred workflows, so treat it as a fresh launcher setup rather than a direct migration. Check the system requirements and the Raycast import guide before switching. Raycast extension support does not make Alfred workflow packages compatible.

Frset for clipboard, screenshots, tools, and search

Frset is designed for copied content and on-screen information. Organize clipboard items by display title, alias, type, and tag; create or edit separate note entries; capture a screen area; annotate it; take a scrolling screenshot; extract or translate text. Built-in tools include summaries, JSON, QR codes, UUIDs, timestamps, image compression, and encoding. Configure search engines and custom URLs in the search bar to send queries to the relevant sites or services.

Frset is not a general launcher and does not replace Alfred's local file search, automatic text expansion, or custom workflows. Screenshot Search is off by default and indexes only eligible Frset screenshots, not every image on the Mac. Frset Free provides access to the most recent 24 hours of ordinary clipboard history, with a separate seven-day cleanup rule. Remote translation, some AI features, and image-compression services may process submitted content.

Maccy, Paste, and Shottr for one task

Try Maccy if you only need lightweight clipboard history, Paste if you want to organize collections across Apple devices, or Shottr if screenshot capture, OCR, or annotation is the missing piece. These tools solve different problems and can be used alongside Alfred.

Pricing and sync

Alfred is free to download, while Powerpack uses one-time licenses. Its shop currently lists a £34 Single User license for the current version and a £59 Mega Supporter license with lifetime free updates. Check the license version and upgrade terms before buying. Raycast Free covers many launcher and search tasks; Pro adds AI, cloud sync, and longer clipboard retention. Frset Free is available to try, and Pro offers monthly, annual, and lifetime options. See current Frset plans.

Alfred's sync guide excludes clipboard history. Raycast Cloud Sync also excludes clipboard history. Frset stores clipboard history locally. Settings sync and remote AI are different data flows; check each product and feature separately.

Test a small set before migrating

Start with three common tasks, such as launching an app, searching a site, expanding a snippet, merging clipboard items, or processing a screenshot. Verify replacements one by one and keep a backup of Alfred's settings and workflows. If you only want better clipboard or screenshot tools, keeping Alfred and adding a focused app may be a better fit.
